The TBU Nursery School incl. a babysitting room is expected to open in the U12 building in April or May of 2011. The Nursery School will be intended for children aged 3 to 6 years. It will offer places to up to 24 children. The babysitting room will have a maximum capacity of 10 children under 3 years of age.

Prof. Václav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic has officially appointed Prof. Ing. Petr Sáha, CSc. as the Rector of Tomas Bata University in Zlín. Prof. Sáha will take up the post on 15 December 2010. The Rector’s term of office is four years, i.e. until December 2014.

Prof. Sáha was the first Rector of TBU in Zlín. He held this post between 2001 and 2007, during two three-year terms of office, after he had made a major contribution to the establishment of TBU. Tomas Bata University in Zlín achieved a dynamic growth under his leadership and, in spite of its short existence, gained a good reputation in the Czech Republic and abroad.

On Thursday, 9 December 2010 the sporting afternoon entitled ‘Paraparáda’ took place in the gym of the Secondary Technical School in Zlín, featuring eight teams - four of them composed of healthy participants (among them firemen and policemen) and the other four composed of disabled people. Finally, the disabled team was victorious. The topic of the event’s eight edition was the Wild West. The participants competed in disciplines such as lasso throwing (with closed eyes) and the so-called “Gold Rush” wheelchair slalom. Finally, all teams joined their efforts in order to make the most impressive totem pole. This year again, the event was organized by FMC students supported by the Zlín Region authorities and the Eurest company.

We would like to inform you that the Counselling Centre will be closed to TBU staff and students on 10 December 2010 due to illness. Thank you for your understanding!

On 7 December 2010 the university ice-hockey match featuring TBU versus Brno University of Technology was played, ending in a 3:3 tie. The next match, this time against Masaryk University, will take place in late February/early March 2011.

On Wednesday, 8 December 2010 the Student Union and Tomas Bata University organized the traditional event entitled ‘Christmas Tree Illumination Ceremony’ and held in front of the U12 building. The programme involved the arrival of St. Nicholas and his helpers, a performance by the rock choir named “Holy Regiment” and refreshments such as sausages, hot tea and mulled wine available for everyone.

An official time off has been announced by the Rector on the occasion of the "TBU Christmas Tree" event, to start at 16:00 (Zlín) and at 15:30 (Uherské Hradiště) on 7 December 2010. At the time announced, no classes will be held at the TBU faculties in Zlín; examination sessions and tutorial hours of academic staff shall be cancelled.


The university ice-hockey match of the century – Tomas Bata University in Zlín versus Brno University of Technology – will take place at “Luděk Čajka” Ice-Hockey Stadium in Zlín at 19:00 on 7 December 2010.

This year again TBU has, in cooperation with the Student Union, organized the pre-Christmas event entitled 'Christmas Tree Illumination', to take place in front of the U2 building (FaME) in Mostní Street from 16:30 to 17:30 on 7 December 2010. The programme features, among others, the arrival of St. Nicholas and his helpers and a performance to be given by the rock choir named “Holy Regiment”; refreshments will be available for everyone. Fairy-tale movies will be projected starting from 18:00. At 21:00 the traditional Christmas party entitled “Afterstrom” will start in the “Metro” club.

The eight edition of the sporting event entitled ‘Paraparáda or Together around the World’ is planned to take place in December and will be organized by FMC students, who aim to achieve yet another success. The previous editions featured sports matches between disabled people and teams composed of firemen, policemen, representatives of the Zlín Region and ice-hockey players. This year’s topic is the Wild West, to be created in the gym of the Secondary Technical School in Zlín between 13:00 and 16:00 on 9 December 2010. All teams will demonstrate their wheelchair skills in competitions such as a shoot-out or the so-called “Gold Rush” slalom. The entry is free.

The “Beer Spiral” competition will start in the Golem Club in Zlín between 17:00 and 18:00 (registration), on Tuesday, 23 November 2010. For the first time ever, individuals will be allowed to participate, however, under different rules.

As in the previous years, this year again the promotional campaign for MISS ACADEMIA is getting under way. The first casting will be held in Prague on 7 January 2011, the second one will follow a week later, in Brno on 14 January 2011. The contestants will be evaluated in three rounds including an IQ test, a conversation with the jury and a swimsuit round. 10 finalists will be selected to advance to the final round, to be held in the newly built Congress Centre in Zlín on 29 March 2011.

The fourth edition of the commemoration events organized by the Student Union supported by TBU was held on the occasion of the anniversary of 17 November (Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day) on Monday, 15 November 2010. The most important part of the events was a commemoration procession starting in the náměstí Míru Square and ending in front of the University Centre building.

The MIXER Multimedia Festival, traditionally organized by the FMC students, will take place between 17 and 20 November 2010. The festival programme includes interesting workshops, seminars, films as well as the announcement of the outcome of the visual arts competition involving four categories: Video and new media, photographs, graphics and design.

In compliance with Rector’s Decree No. 15/2010 an official time off has been announced by the Rector on the occasion of the commemoration events (Anniversary of 17 November), and that starting from 16:30 on 15 November 2010.

For the fourth time already, the Student Union supported by Tomas Bata University has organized commemoration events to be held on the occasion of the anniversary of 17 November (Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day) on Monday, 15 November 2010. The first event will be the traditional “Staircase Run”, to start in the FAI building at Jižní Svahy (U5) at 15:00. The official time off for students begins at 16:30. At 17:00, a speech will be given by Ms Anna Zapletalová, the President of the Student Union, followed by a commemoration procession starting in the náměstí Míru Square and ending in front of the University Centre building. Each attendee will be given a candle as a symbol of this anniversary.

The Faculty of Humanities at TBU in Zlín has organized the second edition of the voluntary event entitled “Donate Blood with the Faculty of Humanities at TBU in Zlín!”.
Through blood donation, everyone can help save lives. You can give blood at the Transfusion Ward of Tomas Bata Regional Hospital in Zlin between 6:00 and 9:00 on Monday, 22 November, Wednesday, 24 November and Thursday, 25 November 2010.

The TBU stand was awarded the second place in the second edition of the competition looking for the best exposition at the “Gaudeamus” European Education and Lifelong Learning Fair 2010, currently held in Brno. The results of the competition depend on the evaluation made by students who give their opinion on the manner the schools present themselves, on the level of their advertising materials, on whether the information is given in a comprehensible way, etc. TBU took the second place behind Mendel University in Brno; the third place went to the Czech Technical University in Prague.

We would like to invite you to visit an exhibition of visual arts featuring the works created during the second edition of the international visual arts symposium entitled ‘Panta Rhei’. The exhibition will take place in the UH2 Gallery in Uherské Hradiště (open Monday through Friday from 08:00 to 17:00). The opening ceremony will be held at 17:00 on 9 November 2010.

The Studio of Advertising Photography (FMC) successfully presented itself at the international ‘Photokina’ fair held in Cologne, Germany. The representatives of the Studio used the opportunity of attending this world's leading fair for photography and imaging to present works by students and organize a lecture on study methods and on the programme of photography studies implemented at TBU.

Official visitors – Mrs Renilde Loeckx, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, and Mr David Chmelík, a representative of the European Commission, came to TBU on 14 October 2010. The guests were received in the FaME building (Mostní Street) by Doc. Vojtěch Křesálek, CSc., TBU Vice-Rector, and Prof. Drahomíra Pavelková, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Economics. Afterwards, a lecture intended for students and entitled “EU Structure, Budget and Policy” was held (in English) in the same building.

In connection with a pre-election meeting to be held on the occasion of selecting a candidate to be appointed Rector, half a day off has been announced for 14 October 2010, starting at 12:30 pm.


Only one candidate has been nominated for the election of the TBU Rector. Prof. Ing. Petr Sáha, CSc., the TBU Vice-Rector for Strategic Development, is the only name on the candidates’ list.

The Department of 3D and Product Design will present works by students of the Studio of 3D Design, Product Design Studio and Glass Design Studio during this year’s edition of “Designblok 2010”, to be held in Prague, Superstudio, Bubenská 1, between 5 and 10 October 2010. After a successful presentation in Washington, the exhibition of works by FMC students will be shown in Dresden. The exhibition was opened in the Goethe Institute in Dresden on 1 October 2010 and will be on view until 29 October 2010.

Starting from 11 October 2010 the OLIVER University League will start in all university towns – i.e. also at TBU in Zlín! The League includes the following sports:

On Friday, 17 September 2010, the TBU Faculty of Management and Economics will celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of its establishment. Prof. Dr. Ing. Drahomíra Pavelková, the FaME Dean, and Doc. RNDr. Vojtěch Křesálek, CSc., Vice-Rector authorized to fully act on behalf of TBU in Zlín, will deliver their addresses at the gathering of students and staff, to take place at 10:00 in the Assembly Hall (Academia Centre, Mostní Street). Awards for their work will be given to outstanding staff members of the Faculty. The celebrations will also involve a meeting of FaME graduates, to start at 16:00.

The third edition of the Researchers’ Night 2010 at TBU will be held in the U5 building (Jižní Svahy) starting from 16:00 on 24 September 2010. The programme will, just like last year, consist of three main parts: Scientific - popular lectures, interesting practical experiments and entertaining artistic performances.

From 26 August to 4 September 2010, the second edition of the international visual arts symposium ‘panta rhei’ was held, organized by the FMC Department of Visual Arts, with five artists from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany creating and presenting their works. The opening ceremony took place in the ‘mmcité’ company in Bílovice at 16:00 on Saturday, 4 September 2010.

On 7 October 2010, the 2nd international conference entitled Ethical Aspects of Nursing Care in Theory and Practice will be held at the Faculty of Health Care at the Catholic University in Ružomberok, Slovakia. The conference is co-organized by the Department of Applied Social Sciences at the Faculty of Humanities.

Such is the name of the exhibition of photographs made by Prof. Miroslav Pokorný, which is on view in the atrium of the U13 building (T. G. Masaryka 5555 in Zlín). The photos were taken during the author’s stay on the island of Rhodos in 2009.

The TBU Counselling Centre will be reopened at 9:00 on 21 September 2010, and that in the room No. 124, building 9A, nám. T.G.Masaryka 588, 760 01 Zlín. For more information please refer to the Counselling Centre News.


The Faculty of Logistics and Crisis and Management (FLCM) has had no Dean since 1st September 2010. Ing. Romana Bartošíková, Ph.D., the Vice-Dean for Pedagogical Activities, has been authorized to temporarily head the Faculty. Ing. Vladimír Mrkvička, Ph.D., the former Dean, was removed from office with effect from 31 August 2010.

On 1 September 2010 TBU commemorates the second anniversary of death of Mr Tomas Bata Jr. (1914-2008), who for many years held the post of the Chairman of the TBU Board of Governors and died aged 93 in Toronto, Canada, on 1 September 2008. The University was named after his father, Tomas Bata, founder of Bata Shoes company (1876-1932).

A rescue team formed at Tomas Bata University in Zlín and consisting of fifteen students and teachers from the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management decided to offer voluntary help to one of the villages hit by the recent flood.

At its extraordinary session held on 9 August 2010, the FLCM Academic Senate voted on the proposal regarding the removal from office of Ing. Vladimír Mrkvička, Ph.D. as the FLCM Dean. In the following ballot, the Senate voted for his removal from office: 8 votes were cast in favour of the removal, 2 votes were cast against it.

A new documentary entitled ‘Tescoma and Bata’s Entrepreneurial Example’, made at the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications by a team involving Doc. MgA. Jana Janíková, Art.D., Dean of the Faculty, Doc. Mgr. Juraj Fandli, Head of the Studio of Audiovisual Arts and their students, was first shown to the spectators on the Open Day of the Tescoma company held in Zlín on 14 August 2010. After the holiday period, the same team is going to start shooting another film, this time about glass industry.

The Sailor’s Union, a social club of practical jokers (students and teachers at the TBU Faculty of Technology and the Faculty of Applied Informatics), has organized a concert to be held on 22 October 2010 and featuring the ‘Avion Swing Band’. Other performers will be: No Name, Fleret, Argema and Jiří Zonyga – winner of the X-Factor competition. Tickets are available at the http://www.ticketportal.cz/ or on the website of the event. From 13 to 14 September 2010 an international conference focusing on technology transfer and innovations and entitled “Prague Summer Conference on IP & Innovation” will take place in the National Technical Library in Prague. The conference programme includes lectures, panel discussions and master classes with world’s leading experts on technology transfer and innovations plus other interesting educational and networking opportunities. The conference is organized by the Czech Technical University in Prague as the inaugural conference of the project “Central Europe Branch Based Innovation Support (CEBBIS)”, under the auspices of the Rector of the Czech Technical University and in cooperation with the Industrial Property Office and the British Embassy in the Czech Republic.

The Faculty of Humanities (Department of English and American Studies) succeeded in obtaining the accreditation of the Lifelong Learning Programme in Additional Teaching of the English Language and Literature for Secondary Schools and Primary Schools (Second Stage). The courses are planned to start in September 2010.

The third edition of the exhibition entitled Interchange/Terminal and showing Bachelor’s and Master’s projects by FMC students is on view in the “12” Gallery in the 32nd building of the former Svit premises (3rd floor, open from 10:00 to 18:00 Monday through Friday) until 25 June 2010.

The organizers of the “TeX double conference” (ConTeXt Meeting and TeXperience 2010 Conference) are pleased to announce that the TBU Faculty of Management and Economics as the official co-organizer has been informed by PhDr. Miroslava Kopcová, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, that the Ministry will support the Conference, i.e. the event will be held under the auspices of the Ministry.

Mr Viktor Pischinger, a graduate from the FMC Studio of Advertising Photography, took the second place in the international photography contest “PX3 Prix De La Photographie Paris” with five pictures from the set “Sea Drift”, included in his Bachelor’s thesis. The international programme “For Women in Science” implemented in cooperation between L’Oréal and UNESCO offers fellowships intended for young female researchers and aimed to support intercultural cooperation in research.

On 2 June 2010 Tomas Bata University in Zlín as the co-organizer of the International Film Festival for Children and Youth conferred the so-called ‘Star Honorary Doctorates’ on two celebrities – Ms Michaela Kuklová, an actress, and Mr Filip Renč, a movie director. The conferment of the humorous degree of “Star Doctor” is part of the Festival’s accompanying programme. Doc. Ing. Berenika Hausnerová, Ph.D., TBU Vice-Rector for International Relations, presented the artists with the awards.

The tenth edition of the conference VITAMINS, NUTRITION AND DIAGNOSTICS will be held as an official event of the Society for Nutrition and the Czech Society of Clinical Biochemistry (Czech Medical Association of Jan Evangelista Purkyně), and that in the new building of the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Academy of Sciences of the CR, Prague, Vídeňská 1083, between 4 and 7 September 2010.

Following the proposal submitted by the TBU Academic Senate, Prof. Václav Klaus, the President of the Czech Republic, removed Prof. Ing. Ignác Hoza, CSc., from the office as the TBU Rector, and that with effect from 1 June 2010. This decision was countersigned by Jan Fischer, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic.

Ms Pavlína Jašková, a second-year student at the Studio of Graphic Design, was awarded the runner-up prize in the competition Young Package 2010, in the category "universities". The topic of this year’s edition was "Sweets Packaging". A Canadian student from Montreal was awarded as the winner of this international competition featuring more than 530 works. We would like to congratulate the successful student on this wonderful accomplishment, to be credited not only to the Studio but also to the whole Faculty of Multimedia Communications.

The gala night of the project entitled “Percipio” will take place in the Swimming Baths in Zlín at 19:30 on Friday, 21 May 2010. This charity project, organized by students at the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications, is aimed at collecting a sufficient amount of financial resources in order to support deaf and aurally impaired children in the Zlín Region.

A lecture by Prof. Jan Švejnar, entitled "How to Intelligently Reform Public Finances", will be held in the Assembly Hall (U2 building) at 10:00 on Monday, 24 May 2010.

A mini-exhibition of posters by Mr Dušan Nečas, a student at the Department of Visual Arts (FMC), will take place in the Library of Bedřich Beneš Buchlovan in Uherské Hradiště. The exhibition entitled "Auschwitz-Birkenau" will be on view until 30 June 2010.

Development of creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, raising the interest in business activities and support for students’ ideas with innovation potential are the main aims of the competition organized by the Technology Innovation Centre, aimed at awarding activities done by students at secondary schools and universities and entitled “Best Business Plan 2009/2010“.

An exhibition of works by students at the FMC studios entitled "Object Drawings" will be opened on the 1st floor in the FMC building (U4) at 15:00 on Tuesday, 18 May 2010. The exhibition will be opened from 19 May to 20 September 2010 between 8:00 and 17:00 (on working days).

A new European Internet portal - www.eu-wishes.eu – will offer to higher education institutions an efficient and free promotional tool intended for students and graduates all over the world. After 8 months of hard work, the portal will be launched in Essen, Germany. Thus, the first 9 partner institutions from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Turkey, the Czech Republic and Russia will have an opportunity to present themselves. The official launch of the portal will take place during the conference entitled “HBAB 3/Networking Wishes Days 2010”, to be held in Essen on 15 and 16 May 2010.

The second place in the category of ‘Best Institution Profile’ in the national competition ‘Golden Semicolon’ went to the brochure published by Tomas Bata University in Zlín (Marketing and Communications) and entitled BE IN, STUDY IN ZLIN. This year 133 projects participated in the competition seeking the best periodicals published by companies and institutions. The award ceremony was held in the “Archa” Theatre in Prague on 6 May 2010. Ing. Andrea Kadlčíková, the TBU Director of Marketing and Communications, received the award on behalf of TBU.

The TBU Student Union has organized an enjoyable afternoon (not only) for TBU students, to take place in the park near František Bartoš Regional Library on Tuesday, 11 May 2010. The event entitled “Student Union in the Park” is scheduled to start at 15:00 and will last until 20:00. The programme includes various sports and games such as pétanque, ludo, marbles, jumping in bags, frisbees, etc. The entry is free for everybody!

The Rector’s Sports Day will take place on 6 May 2010.
Students have to register on the website www.utb.cz (FaME) between 12:00 on 22 April 2010 and 20:00 on 3 May 2010. Course-unit credits in sports activities will be given after the termination of the Rector’s Sports Day. Points will be awarded for participation and victory in the individual sports.

The exhibition GAMEBOYS No1, to open in the “12” Gallery (32nd building of the former Svit premises) at 18:00 on 28 April 2010, will show the results of cooperation between the students of the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications. You will have the opportunity to enjoy and to assess fashion made by graphic designers, graphic programs designed by visual artists, music by animators ... As they are no amateurs as regards marketing either, they have prepared presents, a concert, a banquet and more special prizes for you. Everyone is invited to attend the mega party, to start at 21:00. The exhibition will be on view until 12 May 2010.

The Rag Day warm-up party will be held in the Golem club at 20:00 on Wednesday, 21 April 2010. The entrance fee is CZK 30. A free welcome drink before midnight!

The Award to be given by the Czech Furniture Manufacturers’ Association and entitled "Furniture of the Year 2010" was announced at the international furniture trade fair “MOBITEX 2010” held in Brno on Tuesday, 13 April 2010. The Czech Furniture Manufacturers’ Association in cooperation with the journal “ARCHITEKT” gave a special award to the product “OVO” for an extraordinary contribution to design creation, long-term development and innovations. The design was created by MgA. Martin Surman, a lecturer at the Product Design Studio of the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications. In the competition "Furniture of the Year 2010", the best design and innovation in furniture manufacturing in the given year in the Czech Republic are rewarded.

Mr Matyáš Fuchs, a student at the Product Design Studio of the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications, has been nominated for an award in the competition ”Grand Prix Mobitex”. The recyclable banquet tray shaped as a palette and designed by him is original and, at the same time, functional. The competition is held annually within the international furniture trade fair “MOBITEX“.

Come to attend a meeting with the Vice-Governor of the Czech National Bank. You will learn plenty of up-to-date information on the world of finance, you will have the chance to discuss the impact of crisis on the financial sector and a number of other interesting topics. The meeting with Ing. Mojmír Hampl, Ph.D., the Vice-Governor of the Czech National Bank, will take place in the Otto Wichterle Hall (U2 building) between 12:00 and 14:00 on 19 April 2010.

Musicians from the Czech and Slovak Republic will meet to perform during an event entitled “Great Moravia”, to be held in the “Golem” club at 21:00 on Tuesday, 20 April 2010, and organized by the TBU Student Union for the second time. Students as well as general public are welcome to attend the festival. The event will feature competitions offering tours of Europe and more attractive prizes.

At its regular session held on 6 April 2010, the TBU Academic Senate voted on the proposal regarding the removal from office of Prof. Ing. Ignác Hoza, CSc. as the TBU Rector.
In order to remove the Rector from office, a 3/5 majority of all 36 members of the Academic Senate was necessary. In a secret ballot, the Senate voted for his removal from office: 27 votes were cast in favour of the removal, 9 votes were cast against it.

For the first time ever, Czech experts on audiovisual arts and multimedia will meet at Tomas Bata University in Zlín between 7 and 8 April 2010. During a series of courses the students will be offered lectures on Internet broadcasting, digitalization and new trends in post-production. In front of the U44 building (Štefánikova Street) an outside-broadcasting vehicle will be parked, providing live transmission via satellite. The meeting will be transmitted live on the website http://www.neontv.cz/ from 9:30 on Wednesday. The event is held within “MUNRO” project funded from the Operational Programme “Education for Competitiveness”.

MISS ACADEMIA of the Czech Republic, the fourteenth edition of the beauty contest organized by the students at the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications, took place in the Municipal Theatre in Zlín on 31 March 2010. The title and the crown of MISS ACADEMIA 2010 were awarded to Ms Kateřina Kubačková, a student at the University of Ostrava, in the specialization “Management in the non-profit sector”.

The fourteenth edition of the “Anti” Ball, organized by the TBU Student Union, will be held in the Golem and Flip clubs on Tuesday, 23 March 2010. The event will start at 20:00, the entrance fee for participants with a mask is CZK 20, for those without a mask it is CZK 40. In the Golem club the bands Neo Chess Sunny and Tatroska will be on stage, visitors to the Flip club will enjoy oldies. At midnight the winners of the competition for the best fancy dress outfit will be announced in both clubs.

The Zlín ice hockey club PSG Zlín will meet the HC Slavia Prague in the quarterfinals of the O2 Ice Hockey Major League. The series includes best of seven matches to be played starting from Thursday, 18 March 2010 (at the “Luděk Čajka” Ice-Hockey Stadium in Zlín).

Since 1 March 2010 a new student club has been opened in the U12 building (nám. T. G. Masaryka 3050). The opening hours are from 15:00 to 22:00 every day. Drinks and small refreshments are served in the club.

The tickets will be on sale on Thursday, 4 March 2010.You can collect them in the U44 building (former seat of the TBU Library) at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications, on the ground floor in the conference room No. 109 between 10:00 and 15:00. Please bring your ID card or university chip card with you. Full-time students must present all student cards that have been entered into the system and are used to receive a price reduction for students. Without presenting the cards no reduction in price is possible.

Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra has organized an additional concert, due to great interest from the public. In addition to the originally planned concert of the folk band “Nezmaři” together with Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra, to take place on 18 March 2010, another concert will be held on Friday, 19 March 2010; both of them in Dům umění (Art House) Zlín at 19:00.

The TBU Faculty of Technology will offer a new specialization - Bachelor’s studies focusing on medical and pharmaceutical materials, to be taught from the academic year 2010-2011.
“Medical materials have become one of the key spheres on which the research conducted at TBU is concentrated. We aim at offering the students the possibility to get acquainted with this topic in their first year of study,“ says Prof. Ing. Petr Sáha, CSc., TBU Vice-Rector for Strategic Development. The degree course “Chemistry and Materials Technology”, already taught at the Faculty of Technology, shall be therefore extended by adding subjects focusing on medical and pharmaceutical materials.

The casting to select models and hostesses for the 10th Gala Ball of Tomas Bata University in Zlín will be held in the University Centre (U13), room 540, at 14:00 on Tuesday, 23 February 2010. The University Ball will take place in the “Moskva” hotel on 19 March 2010 and host fashion show featuring underwear and dresses designed by the employees of the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications. There is no need to wear a ball dress for those who want to participate in the casting; a T-shirt, jeans, a swimsuit, high-heeled shoes and a picture of the participant (for identification purposes) are sufficient. The TBU Gala Ball is always a highlight of the university life in Zlín.

In compliance with Rector’s Decree No. 1/2010 an official time off has been announced by the Rector on the occasion of the “Festive Gathering of Staff and Students of TBU in Zlín” and that for the period between 12:00 and 15:00 on 17 February 2010. The festive gathering of students and employees of Tomas Bata University in Zlín held to mark the 9th anniversary of the establishment of TBU and featuring the inauguration of the Dean of the Faculty of Logistics and Management, Ing. Vladimír Mrkvička, Ph.D., will take place in the Assembly Hall at 5139 Mostní Street in Zlín (U2 building) at 13:00 on Wednesday, 17 February 2010. In the course of the ceremony, diplomas and letters of appointment will be awarded to new Doctors (Ph.D. holders) and Associate Professors.

The "Rural Poster Exhibition", organized by second year students at the Department of Visual Arts (Faculty of Multimedia Communications), will be opened in the UH2 Gallery Uherské Hradiště at 17:00 on 9 February 2010.

Mr Moudilou Mouanga Berjo Ange-Ernest, 2nd year student at the Graphic Design Studio (TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications), won the 1st prize in the international competition for the best poster designed on the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the film festival held in Tarifa (Spain). The competition was focusing on the 50th anniversary of independence celebrated in most of the African states. The festival will take place between 21 and 29 May 2010. The public announcement of results of the national student competition Design Talent 2009 took place on 19th January 2010 in the "Alternativa" Cultural Centre in Zlín. The top award went to Ms Lenka Svatošová, a student from Vysoké Mýto, in recognition of her design for suitcase and hand luggage. Furthermore, 5 special awards were handed out, two of them to TBU students – to Mr Michal Vlček and Mr Adam Veselý. The exhibition showing the competition entries will run in the "Alternativa" Cultural Centre until 2nd February 2010. The entry is free.

On 1st January 2010 a new website about Tomas Bata was launched, containing detailed information on Tomas Bata Sr., his biography, an extensive gallery of period photographs as well as references to other interesting sources and a bibliography of publications on Tomas Bata compiled by PhDr. Zdeněk Pokluda. The website will be regularly updated.

A special award in the “Erasmus Student Label 2009” competition organized by the National Agency for European Educational Programmes, which is part of the Centre for International Services of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, went to Ms. Zuzana Bahulová, a student of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, for her essay describing her experience gained during a stay within the Erasmus programme in the academic year 2008/9.
