Tomas Bata University in Zlin cordially invites all those interested in studying at TBU to attend the Open Days to be held on:
22nd January 2010 at the Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Management and Economics, Faculty of Multimedia Communications (degree programme “Media and Communication Studies” only), Faculty of Applied Informatics, Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management (with its seat in Uherské Hradiště). The respective faculties will give one-hour presentations at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00. The visitors will be shown around the buildings and also enabled to see the equipment.
We would like to inform you that the TBU Counselling Centre will be reopened on Friday, 15 January 2010. Thank you for your understanding.
On Wednesday, 16th December 2009, we have a day off – the next match will be held in 2010.

Generation 89" project implemented within the EUNIC network (European Union National Institutes for Culture) and supported by the European Commission. The main objective of the project is to enable the young generation growing up without the burden of totalitarian regimes to express their attitudes and ideas.

In its regular session held on 24th November 2009, the TBU Academic Senate called the TBU Academic Senate elections to the next term of office (2010 – 2013), to be held between 15th and 19th February 2010, and that in accordance with the Article 2 Paragraph 1 of the Rules of Procedure and Election Rules. Each faculty will be represented by 4 academic employees and 2 students to be elected as members of the TBU Academic Senate.
In compliance with Rector’s Decree No. 16/2009 an official day off has been announced by the Rector to start at 16:30 on 9th December 2009 on the occasion of the “TBU Christmas Tree” event. For the remote workplaces of TBU in Zlín the day off starts at 14:00 already.

TBU Christmas Tree will be illuminated again, and that in front of the
U2 building of Tomas Bata University in Zlín at Mostní Street at
17:00 on Wednesday, 9th December 2009. The visitors can look forward to the performance to be given by the brass quintet of Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra, carol singing and meeting St. Nicholas. The entry is free. At 18:00 the projection of the fairy-tale movie “Give the Devil His Due“ will start in the Wichterle Hall (U2 building).

The
Christmas concert organized by the “Youth Wind Orchestra” including a majorette and dance group (planned to be held in the “Velké kino” (Grand Cinema) in Zlín at 17:00 on 13th December 2009) has been moved to the Municipal Theatre in Zlín and will start at 17:00 on Sunday, 20th December 2009. “Jazz Strings” will be the guest artists. The concert will offer a variety of genres; the repertoire includes Pirates of the Caribbean, movie scores, Viennese waltz, popular melodies, etc.
The tickets have been on sale at the reception of the House of Culture (FLIP), during the orchestra rehearsals and at the Municipal Theatre box office since 27th November 2009.
On Wednesday, 18th November 2009 commemoration events on the occasion of the International Students' Day were held, organized by the Student Union at Tomas Bata University and including the “Staircase Run” competition, a lecture, a ceremonial procession of more than 150 students holding candles and banners in their hands and a speech given by the TBU Rector followed by a fire show.

In compliance with Rector’s Decree No. 14/2009 an official day off has been announced by the Rector to start at 17:00 on 18th November 2009 on the occasion of the national holiday – “Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day”. For the participants in the “Staircase Run” the day off starts at 14:00 already.
On Thursday, 12th November 2009, the Faculty of Multimedia Communications at TBU in Zlín opened its own gallery entitled “Dvanáctka” (Number Twelve) in the 32nd building situated in the former Svit premises. The exhibition will run every day between 10:00 and 24:00 until 27th November 2009 and feature work by students and graduates in visual arts and other disciplines lectured at FMC, design, photographs, graphics, fashion, audio vision and multimedia, similarly focused workshops and lectures, film projections, audiovisual experiments and multimedia show.

“Beer Spiral” competition will start in the Golem Club in Zlín at
18:00, on Tuesday,
3rd November 2009. The competing teams composed mostly of students of Tomas Bata University in Zlín have to visit ten restaurants and to drink two 0,5 l glasses of beer and one 0,3 l glass of beer in each of them. The event is organized by the TBU Student Union, this year in its fourteenth edition.

On Tuesday, 13th October 2009, the Student Union at Tomas Bata University in Zlin held a “Welcome Party for First Year Students”. The event featuring six different music genres presented on five venues attracted a record number of visitors – more than 2500.
Besides several competitions the highlight of the evening for first-year students undoubtedly was the “initiation ceremony”, during which they pledged their loyalty to the University by raising their right shoe.

Mr. Jan Otruba, a student at the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications, took second place at the Tour Region Film Festival in Karlovy Vary thanks to his film
“ZlíNY – Zlín in New York”. Competing with 128 films entered, all of them focusing on the topic of tourism, he managed to finish in
second place. The picture, also designated as the ZLIN Promo 2008, was shot last year to be shown during an exhibition staged in the Czech National House in Manhattan and was aimed at presenting the current town of Zlín to the Americans. The Tour Region Film Festival 2009 was held in the “Thermal” hotel between 7

This year the Library at Tomas Bata University in Zlin will co-organize Bibliotheca Academica, a prestigious meeting of university librarians coming from all over the Czech Republic. The Association of Libraries of Czech Universities is the main organizer of the event. 150 employees working in university libraries will meet in Zlin between 3rd and 4th November 2009 in order to discuss the following topic: “How to boost the prestige of libraries at higher education institutions“. Within the supplementary programme the guests will visit the Shoe Museum, the Bata Villa and other architectural sights of the town.
Students at the Department of Animation and Audiovisual Arts of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications at Tomas Bata University in Zlin were again successful in a competition, this time at the 31st edition of the Festival of Czech Film and Television Comedy entitled “Novoměstský hrnec smíchu“ (Laughing Pot of Nové Město).
The movie "Brutpong" directed by Tomáš Hubáček was announced as the Audience Award winner in the “Students’ Laughing Pot“ section. According to the festival’s tradition, the time during which the audience was laughing when watching the film within the competition was the decisive factor – the award winning movie made the spectators laugh during 28,33% of its total duration.
The Student Union at Tomas Bata University in Zlin has organized the event entitled “Welcome Party for First Year Students”, to take place this evening, i.e. at 21:00 on 13th October 2009. As every year, there will be a varied programme held at five venues.
At Flip and Music Land the visitors can have a good time listening to oldies, “Velké kino” (Grand Cinema) will be reserved for fans of house, electro and D’n’B, at Golem the students will be able to enjoy the performance given by the bands My Wave and The Roads and Klid will be the centre of “chill-out”. First-year students have to pay an entrance fee of 40 CZK (using their ISIC card), other persons will pay 50 CZK, with one ticket valid for entrance to all venues. A number of competitions and a festive ceremony (traditional rite featuring a shoe) will take place during the evening - around midnight all “freshers” will be “initiated”. i.e. allowed to join the ranks of TBU students. Since 2006, the event has become very popular with TBU students – every year at least 2000 arrive to attend the party. Everyone is cordially invited to come.
About a hundred bold competitors equipped with pillows met in front of “Velké kino” (Grand Cinema) at 17:00 on Wednesday, 7
th October 2009.
They came to enjoy the first ever Pillow Battle to take place in the Zlin Region. The event had been prepared by the Student Union at Tomas Bata University in Zlin, in cooperation with the Golden Apple Cinema, other cinemas in Zlin and the server

The organizers needed one hour and a half to clean the whole place. A non-professional photo competition is underway, the author of the best picture, to be selected by fans on the social network “Facebook”, will be awarded air tickets in order to travel around Europe. The contenders can send their pictures to the e-mail address:
polstarovabitva@gmail.com. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, 13
th October 2009, during another event organized by the Student Union – welcome party for first-year students, to be held in local clubs.

Ms. Zuzana Dubová, a fresh graduate from FMC, was awarded the Jury Prize at the Short Movie Festival in Potenza (Italy) in recognition of her film entitled "3 Days".

The Student Union at Tomas Bata University in Zlin, in cooperation with the Golden Apple Cinema, other cinemas in Zlin and the server Vychytané.cz, invites all students to participate in the first ever Pillow Battle fought in the Zlin Region. The event is scheduled to take place in the car park in front of “Velké kino” (Grand Cinema) at 17:00 on Wednesday, 7th October 2009.
Nevertheless, the point of the Pillow Battle is not you should punish persons you don’t like, known or foreign to you, and - what is most important – we are not looking for a winner. The main idea is to have a good time, laugh, tear up a few pillows and return to childhood. During the event a non-professional photo contest will be held. Everyone will be enabled to take pictures, make all sorts of audio and video recordings or ask any of the organizers a question.

Student Union at Tomas Bata University in Zlin
A one week’s meeting with teachers from partner universities, 1st International Week, is held by the TBU International Affairs Department this week. International guests coming from Poland, Hungary, Austria, Russia, Norway, Finland and Egypt will visit the university buildings, laboratories and other facilities for students at TBU, with all the equipment corresponding to European standards. The event is aiming at meeting the international partners personally, deepen the cooperation already started and show the visitors the University and the Zlin Region. “All this could raise the international students’ interest in studying at our University,“ said doc. Ing. Berenika Hausnerová, Ph. D., Vice-Rector for International Relations. Some of the guests will present lectures to TBU students.
The TBU Faculty of Technology plans – in order to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its establishment – to hold a celebratory session of the Scientific Board of the Faculty of Technology. The session will take place in the Assembly Hall in Mostni Street at 11:00 on 7th October 2009, with about 200 guests invited to participate.
A welcome party for international students – “Welcome Cocktail Party” - will be held by the TBU International Office in the University Centre atrium (U 13) on Thursday, 8th October 2009, to be started at 19:00.
The Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management, which is the University's sixth faculty, was launched in Uherské Hradiště on Wednesday 30 September 2009.

That’s right, the 7th issue of the most widely read student magazine at TBU - IN.GHOST is being printed ‘nineteen to the dozen’. It is bursting with interesting articles referring to the University, studies, Zlín, as well as entertainment. Since the magazine is free of charge once again, you have to fight to gain one. The magazine is available in the racks for the Universalia magazine at all Faculties, in the Library, Book Shop, as well as in the Refectories. Hapless hunters who happen to miss the prey can order the magazine direct from the editor’s office.

One of the priorities of Tomas Bata University (TBU) concerning communication with prospective students in the year 2008 was its participation in higher education fairs in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. TBU successfully presented itself in Brno and Bratislava and another extensive presentation is going to take place in Prague in January 2009.

. A three day meeting of writers and readers will take place in Zlín and Otrokovice from

22 April 2009. Attendees will enjoy a number of authors’ readings, writer-reader meetings, concerts, and other events that were held in the past years as well. The theme of next year’s festival is fantasy and sci-fi. The festival will be held under the auspices of the Writers’ Guild and the Czech Centre of the International PEN Club.

Faculty of Multimedia Communications succeeded in their efforts twice. Aleš Lukašík, third-year student of 3D Design studio, has won first place in the category entitled
P.O.P. Material for the Coca-Cola Company for his project entitled
Coca-Cola Ice Table. Jakub Hájek has won first prize for his project of a four-wine-bottle cardboard multipack and an unconventionally designed sales stand in the category entitled
Material Promoting the Sale of Wine.
