Commemoration Events - Anniversary of 17 November

On 16 November 2011, commemoration events will be held on the occasion of the anniversary of 17 November (Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day). The events have been organized by the Student Union in cooperation with Tomas Bata University.

The first event will be the traditional “Staircase Run”, to start in the FAI building at Jižní Svahy (U5) at noon. A lecture by Mr. Jaroslav Pinkas from the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes will be held in the lecture hall in the University Centre (U13) at 13:30. After the lecture - at 15:15 - the film “Partly Cloudy” featuring scenes filmed on 17 November 1989 will be screened.
At 17:00, a speech will be given by Mr Jiří Budínský, President of the Student Union, followed by a commemoration procession starting in the náměstí Míru Square and ending in front of the FMC building (U44). Each attendee will be given a candle as a symbol of this anniversary.
In front of the U44 building, the participants in the procession will listen to a speech delivered by Doc. PhDr. Ing. Aleš Gregar, CSc., Vice-Rector of TBU, followed by a short news summary recorded in 1989.
During the speech and the projection, all participants will be offered hot tea and mulled wine.
