An official time off has been announced by the Rector on the occasion of the “Christmas Tree Illumination Ceremony”, to start at 16:00 on 6 December 2011.


The ‘Koala’ Babysitting Room will be closed due to technical reasons on 2 December 2011.
We would like to thank all parents for their understanding.


We would like to invite all students, employees and their children to attend the traditional Christmas Tree Illumination, to take place in front of the U2 building (FaME) in Mostní Street on Tuesday, 6 December 2011. The program starts at 16:00 and will feature decorating of gingerbread, making of Christmas tree decorations, a competition, a performance by the “Josef Mareček Dulcimer Band” from Uherské Hradiště as well as a projection of the fairy-tale movie ‘The Princess with the Golden Star’. The Christmas tree will be illuminated at 17:00.

The brochure ‘Profile of Tomas Bata University in Zlín’ won the Gold Medal in the QS Apple Creative Awards 2011 competition in the category ‘Best International Student Recruitment Brochure’. The awards were presented at the 7th QS Asia Pacific Professional Leaders in Education Conference and Exhibition held in Manila (Philippines).

The 16th edition of the MISS ACADEMIA 2012 contest was launched at Tomas Bata University in Zlín on 1 November 2011. This year, social networks will be of the most importance to the contestants. Each of the ten finalists, who will be known after the castings to be held in Prague, Brno and Ostrava in January, will receive smartphones in order to communicate in social networks - Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare - during two months.

The third edition of the Researchers’ Night 2011 at TBU will be held in the U5 building (Jižní Svahy) starting from 16:00 on 23 September 2011. The event is organized by Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU) in cooperation with the Sailors’ Union. The Techmania Science Centre is the national coordinator of the event held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, with the Representation of the European Commission in the CR and the Europe Direct network as partners.

Doc. JUDr. Petr Pithart, Deputy Chairperson of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, visited the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management in Uherské Hradiště on 12 September 2011. Prof. Ing. Josef Polášek, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty, informed Mr. Pithart about the strategic plan of the Faculty, about the current problems of higher education and the development of higher education in Uherské Hradiště. Mr. Pithart met with the employees and visited the FLCM buildings, with the laboratories of logistics and crisis management being of particular interest to him.

Prof. Ing. Petr Sáha, CSc., Rector of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, appointed Doc. Ing. Roman Čermák, Ph.D., as the Dean of the Faculty of Technology on 6 September 2011. On 5 September 2011, the Academic Senate of the Faculty elected Doc. Čermák as the candidate to be appointed as the Dean of the Faculty. Doc. Čermák was the only candidate for the post.

The Department of English and American Studies (FHS) organized the third edition of the international conference on Anglophone studies entitled "Theories and Practices", to be held from 7 to 8 September 2011.
The conference venue is the University Centre (U13 building).

A meeting to commemorate the third anniversary of death and the 97th anniversary of birth of Mr Tomas Bata Jr. will be held in front of his bust on the premises of Thomas Bata Foundation (Bata Villa) at 11:00 on Thursday, 1 September 2011.


Three students at the Shoe Design Studio were successful in the fifth edition of the competition of young shoe designers organized by Jan Pivečka Foundation in cooperation with the Czech Footwear and Leather Association in Zlín and with Brno Trade Fairs.

A chat with Mr Andrew Feustel, a U.S. astronaut, will be held in the TBU Assembly Hall (Mostní 5139) at 14:00 on Friday, 5 August 2011. Mr Feustel became famous in the Czech Republic for taking a figure of the Mole created by Zdeněk Miler (a well-known Czech animator) on board of the Space Shuttle Endeavour. The event will be interpreted into Czech. The entry is free.

Kateřina Huňová and Hana Kundrátová from the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications achieved the greatest success of Czech advertising in the post-revolutionary period, and that in Cannes (France). In the Young Lions Competition intended for younger generation interested in creativity in communications, they took gold in the Media category. Both of them recent graduates from the degree programme in Marketing Communications, they beat 21 international teams that participated in the competition.

The final round of the Olympiad in Economics and Management took place in the University Centre on Saturday, 18 June 2011. 115 students out of 2,493 participants advanced to the final round of the event. 31 of them will be enabled to study in the degree course of their choice at the Faculty of Management and Economics in the academic year 2012/2013 without entrance examinations.

On 2 June 2011, the national winners of the pan-European student contest entitled Young? Creative? Chevrolet! were announced. The first prize in the ‘Photography’ category was awarded to Juliana Křížová and Jakub Vlček, both of them students of the Studio of Advertising Photography at the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications. The third prize in the same category went to the team composed of Jiří Balát, Filip Beránek and Michal Buráň. The winners of national awards automatically participate in the pan-European competition.


Students of the Studio of Advertising Photography (FMC) participated in one of the biggest photography festivals in Europe, this time held in Zingst (Germany). The event included about 30 exhibitions, among them also an exhibition of works by students.

Veronika Nováková, a student of the Graphic Design Studio, became the overall winner of the international poster contest on the subject of HOLOCAUST—KEEPING THE MEMORY ALIVE, and that in competition with more than 300 works by students from three countries – the Czech Republic, France and Israel. Two more FMC students, Peter Chmela and Petr Nehera, joined the final round featuring a total of 16 posters. These selected posters will be on display in the building of the UNO in New York and in major European towns.

Ms. Veronika Mikalová, a student in the degree course in Directing and Screenwriting, has recently achieved double success. In the ‘Best Business Plan 2011’ competition she took the third place with her project entitled ‘MyTravelDiary’. The same project was also successful in the ‘Enterprising Mind’ competition, finishing fourth out of fifty projects by young contestants.

The staff of the Department of Marketing and Communications received the award on behalf of TBU in the “Vzlet” Theatre in Prague on 19 May 2011.

On Monday, 30 May 2011 the TBU Nursery School and Babysitting Room were officially opened. Many prominent personalities were present at the opening ceremony: Prof. Petr Sáha (TBU Rector), Ing. Michaela Šojdrová (Chairperson of the TBU Board of Governors), RNDr. Alexander Černý (TBU Bursar), other leading representatives of the University and its faculties, of the Municipal Authority in Zlín and of the Regional Office of the Zlín Region.

TRILOBITE, a multi-purpose aid intended for use by physically disabled people and developed at our University, has found an investor. Therefore, nothing stands in the way of starting its industrial production in the following months. “On 20 May we signed a licence agreement related to the industrial design of TRILOBITE with Ing. Jiří Devát, whose company will be in charge of the production of this aid,” said Prof. Drahomíra Pavelková, Dean of the TBU Faculty of Management and Economics.

Tomas Bata University in Zlín has co-organized some of the events held during the 51st edition of the Zlín Film Festival. The so-called ‘Star Honorary Doctorates’ will be conferred on two famous actors – Mrs. Jiřina Bohdalová and Mr. Michal Dlouhý - in front of “Velké kino” (Grand Cinema) at 15:00 on Tuesday, 31 May. For the first time, a workshop for children will be held, entitled “Become a Scientist!” and featuring scientists from the Faculty of Technology and from the Faculty of Applied Informatics who will show entertaining experiments to children (atrium in the University Centre from 09:00 to 12:00 on Wednesday, 1 June). Another new event is the workshop “Children’s TV studio”, to be held in the TV studio at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications (from 09:00 to 12:00 on Thursday, 2 June).

On Friday, 20 May, Ing. Eduard Janota, a long-standing member of the TBU Board of Governors, suddenly died. He was a leading economist, a well-known personality of the Czech financial system and an expert on the state budget. He worked as a Deputy Minister of Finance for many years; between 2009 and 2010 he was the Minister of Finance in the government headed by Jan Fischer. His passing will be an immense loss to TBU, as Eduard Janota was a man of integrity and a friendly person, who contributed considerably to the development of the University.

The honorary degree of doctor honoris causa was conferred upon Prof. Eva Jiřičná, a world-renowned architect and a native of Zlín, at Tomas Bata University in Zlín on 18 May 2011. “The University took the decision to award a honorary doctorate to Prof. Jiřičná above all in recognition of her life’s work and her contribution to architecture and interior design, for her excellent presentation of TBU in the Czech Republic and abroad and for contributing to the reputation of the University and of the town of Zlín,” said Prof. Petr Sáha, TBU Rector.

During the time announced, no classes will be held at the TBU faculties and the examination sessions and consultation hours of academic staff shall be cancelled.


Due to bad weather conditions, the "Student Union in the Park" event has to be postponed to a later date, to be determined yet.

The second edition of the event entitled “Student Union in the Park”, to take place in the park near František Bartoš Regional Library on Tuesday, 26 April 2011, is scheduled to start at 14:00 and will last until 18:00. The programme will feature chill-out music performed by a DJ and various sports and games, e.g. pétanque and frisbee throwing. The entry is free for everybody.


In compliance with Rector’s Decree No. 3/2011 an official time off has been announced by the Rector, and that from 12:00 on 3 May 2011 on the occasion of the Rag Day. The ice-hockey team of Tomas Bata University in Zlín won gold medals at the 8th Academic Championship of the Czech Republic. Our ice-hockey players beat all opponents in qualifying matches and in the final round held in Slaný and became the academic champions of the Czech Republic.

The Institute of Health Care Studies of the TBU Faculty of Humanities would like to invite you to attend the first international congress on History of Nursing within the Context of History of Medicine and Midwifery, to be held in Zlín on 18 and 19 May 2011.


A unique exhibition of insignia and academic gowns will take place in the atrium of the University Centre in Zlín (nám. T. G. Masaryka 5555 - U13) between 6 and 10 April 2011. The exhibition will be open daily to the public (incl. Saturdays and Sundays) from 08:00 to 18:00. The insignia and academic gowns of the Rector, Vice-Rectors, Chairman of the Academic Senate, and the insignia of all Faculties and the academic gowns of their Deans and Vice-Deans will be on display. This event has been organized on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the foundation of TBU.


An exhibition of graphic works by students of the Department of Visual Arts in Uherské Hradiště will be held from 1 April 2011 to 1 May 2011 in Prague: A Gallery, Acropolis Palace, Kubelíkova 27, Prague 3.


On Tuesday, 29 March 2011, the final gala night of the fifteenth edition of the beauty contest organized by students at the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications took place in the Congress Centre in Zlín. The winner is Ms. Pavlína Kadlecová (20) from Podivice near Vyškov. Pavlína is a student of the degree programme in Social and Mass Communication at J. A. Komenský College of Higher Education in Prague.

On Tuesday, 22 March 2011, another edition of the popular fancy dress party entitled “Anti” Ball and organized by the TBU Student Union was held in the Golem and Flip clubs. The winners of the fancy dress competition for the best costume were three students costumed as notes of CZK 100, 200 and 500. The programme featured performances by bands such as A Banquet, Neo Ches Sunny, Ginger (FaME band).

A retrospective exhibition entitled “Studio of Graphic Design” will take place in the U13 building from 23 to the middle of April 2011. The event is held under the auspices of Doc. MgA. Jana Janíková, ArtD, Dean of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications The exhibition will open at 17:00 on 23 March 2011.


This year’s edition of the “Anti” Ball, a popular project organized by the TBU Student Union, will be held in the Golem and Flip clubs at 21:00 on 22 March 2011. The entrance fee for attendees wearing elaborate masks is CZK 30, for those without a mask it is CZK 50.The programme will feature performances by bands such as A Banquet, Neo Ches Sunny, Ginger (FaME band).

The fifth edition of the “Gala Night” project was held in the TBU Assembly Hall at 19:00 on Tuesday, 8 March 2011, again organized by the Student Union in cooperation with students of Project Management and supported by TBU. Six among the twenty nominated students received an award; the winner in the "Crazy Action" category was announced as well.

The winners include Martin Málek (FT), Jiří Matyáš (FAI), Renata Polepilová, Hana Medvedová (FHS), Dogacan Kanat, Soňa Podstupková (FMC).

The unique musical and dance show “Percipio Exhibition” will take place in “Velké kino” (Grand Cinema) in Zlín at 19:00 on Wednesday, 9 March 2011. This charitable project organized by students at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications is aimed at supporting the Therapy Dog Centre in Zlín.
The event will feature performances by Chebejet (group of acrobats), Voxtet (vocal band) and Free Dance (dance studio from Prostějov); the Therapy Dog Centre will present their dogs in training.

This year’s edition of the project has been organized again by the Student Union in cooperation with students of Project Management and supported by TBU. Six among the twenty nominated students will receive an award in recognition of their excellent work, and the winner in the "Crazy Action" category will be announced. The programme features Capoeira fighters (Brazilian martial art) and performances by dancers and cowboys. The entry is free. The afterparty in the “Flip” discotheque will start at 21:00.

The Thomas Bata Foundation is a member of a team that introduces FameLab® - a competition for scientists, created in Great Britain in 2004 - to the Czech Republic, and that in cooperation with the British Council. Young scientists are offered an opportunity to communicate about science.

The TBU Student Union has decided to draw the attention to one of their successful projects entitled "Green University" , and would like to again remind all TBU students and teachers of the importance of waste separation. The campaign was launched on 14 February 2011.

On 17 February 2011 Ms. Miroslava Horká, a TBU student, was presented with an award in the prestigious Top Styl Designer competition, and that for her collection entitled PROFILO. The author is a first-year Master's student at the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications, in the degree course in Fashion Design led by Mgr. Mária Štraneková, ArtD.

Mr. Lukáš Kuba, a student at the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications, has been selected as one of the successful designers from among those who presented their works in Detroit. 1000 designs were entered into the competition; 34 selected designers had the opportunity to attend this year's edition of the North American International Auto Show held in Detroit.

The Endowment Fund of JUDr. Martin Růžička and the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications would like to invite you to attend the opening day of the international student competition Design Talent 201 0, to be held in the lobby of the U13 building (TBU Rectorate), nám. T. G. Masaryka 5555, Zlín at 17:00 on Tuesday, 22 February 2011. The event shall involve a presentation of results of the Fashion Fresh competition, a big fashion show featuring works by students at the FMC Fashion Design Studio and Shoe Design Studio as well as an exhibition of designs entered into the competition.


The Open Day at FLCM will take place at the TBU Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management in Uherské Hradiště at 10:00 and 14:00 on 18/02/2011 (hourly presentations of degree programmes).


The Gala Night of the Student Union will be held on 8 March 2011. TBU students that have achieved something exceptional, extraordinary or unique will be awarded a prize; the "Crazy Action" category is a specific and genuinely student-initiated category aimed at rewarding those students who have done something shocking or surprising. Since October 2010 the OLIVER University League has been organized in Zlín and that in squash, badminton and bowling. 26 squash players, 13 badminton players and 18 bowling players participated in the autumn season (October 2010 – January 2011). Do you want to join us? The spring season starts on 1 February.

On the fifth anniversary of its establishment, the TBU Faculty of Applied Informatics has organized the First Faculty Ball (co-organized by the "Sailors' Union"), to be held in the U5 building (Jižní Svahy) on Saturday, 5 March 2011. The event is intended not only for staff and students; it is also open to the public.


The finalists of the MISS ACADEMIA of the Czech Republic 2011 contest have been announced. A total number of 320 female university students from the whole Czech Republic wanted to participate in this prestigious beauty contest. During the castings held in Prague and in Brno and involving a swimsuit round and a conversation with the jury, the girls had also to pass a knowledge and intelligence test. The gala night, at which the winner of the fifteenth Miss Academia contest will be announced, is scheduled to be held in the Congress Centre in Zlín on 29 March 2011.

An exhibition of works by fourth- and fifth-year students (Department of Visual Arts) will be opened in the UH2 Gallery in Uherské Hradiště at 17:00 on Tuesday, 14 December 2010. The exhibition will be on view until 4 February 2011.

The fourth edition of the exhibition entitled “Life is No Zebra” and organized by students of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications in cooperation with the Zlín Region will take place between 21 and 26 February 2011.
The project aims to acquaint the public with main activities of non-profit organizations and to present their role in the cultural, social, sports and ecological development of the Zlín Region.
