Tomas Bata University in Zlín Was Awarded Special European Quality Labels
65 higher education institutions from 16 European countries received special European quality labels, namely ECTS Label and DS Label, on 11 June 2009 in Brussels.TBU was awarded the DS Label for the second time in its history. “In 2006 we were awarded this Label for the first time. Its validity period expires this year, that’s why we applied again,” Vice-Rector for Pedagogical Activities, Prof. Ing. Roman Prokop, CSc., explained.
The Labels were awarded in recognition of the efforts of higher education institutions to make it easier for their students to study abroad. The Labels are given to universities, which have shown excellence in applying the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System and Diploma Supplement, two instruments that make teaching and learning more transparent and facilitate the recognition of studies and qualifications.
The ECTS Label and DS Label for the period from 2009 to 2013 were handed over to the representatives of the universities by Jan Figeľ, European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, in the presence of Vice-Minister for European Affairs of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, Jakub Dürr.
Many institutions applied for the Labels, however, only one third of these succeeded. Out of the 63 ECTS applications, 23 higher education institutions received the ECTS Label and from 161 DS applications, 52 higher education institutions became holders of the DS Labels. Another 10 institutions received both labels.
