Rector’s Statement

Today I got acquainted with a series of anonymous letters that had been sent to the members of Academic Senates and some students of the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications.

On this subject, I would like to announce the following:
On 4 January 2008 I received an anonymous letter concerning the alleged plagiarism in the habilitation thesis written by doc. Ing. Jaroslav Světlík, Ph.D. Despite the fact that I do not usually react to anonymous letters, I devoted considerable attention to this matter.
The case has been discussed within the TBU management. We have been presented with the original copies of both the doctoral and habilitation thesis and I asked for independent reviews to be led outside the scope of TBU. I also asked doc. Světlík to express his view of the situation. On 11 March the TBU management was informed about the findings of the analyses of the incriminated theses.
In view of the fact that the case is rather complex I decided to set up an ethics committee in compliance with Article 26 of the TBU Statute and submit the case for consideration to the committee. The committee’s hearing will take place on 1 April 2008.
