TBU Counselling Centre has extended the range of services offered, namely by ecumenical spiritual counselling (pastoral counselling). The service will be provided from 10 December 2008 onwards on Wednesdays from 12 noon to 3pm. Pastoral counselling will be provided by Mgr. Jiří Klimeš from the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethen, a parson devoted to work with young people.

Yesterday, the Academic Senate of Tomas Bata University in Zlín expressed itself via secret voting in favour of the removal of the Dean of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications, doc. Miroslav Zelinský, proposed by TBU Rector, Prof. Ignác Hoza. Out of a total of 28 senators present, 21 voted in favour of the removal, 2 voted against the proposal and 5 refrained from voting. Therefore, doc. Zelinský will be removed from the office of Dean only after two months.

We are deeply saddened to announce that Mr Tomas Bata, Chairperson of the Board of Governors of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, died yesterday at the age of 93 in Toronto, Canada, where he lived with his family.
“We are heartbroken at the sudden passing of Mr Bata. We have lost an extremely valuable person, who always acted as a wise counsellor and true friend and spread the good word about our University in the Czech Republic and abroad. Mr Bata used to be full of life and optimism. He always showed interest in the University life, he enjoyed meetings with students and the University staff. We all liked him very much. His sad demise is an irreparable loss to me, as well as to the University. We would like to express our deepest sympathy on the death of Mr Tomas Bata to his wife Sonja, his children and family,” said Rector of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Prof. Ignác Hoza.

The Development and Improvement of the Quality of Teaching in Degree Courses Taught at the Faculty of Technology of Tomas Bata University in Zlín with the Use of E-Learning Technology’ and ‘
The Development and Improvement of the Quality of Teaching in the Degree Programme in Food Chemistry and Technology with Specialization in Gastronomy with the Use of E-Learning Technology’. A total of 32 distance learning texts from the area of natural sciences, food and gastronomy technologies, food chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology have been created within these projects that were worth CZK 9,560,000. The project partner that arranged part of the paperwork and made monitoring reports was CEPAC association.

Three new independent units will be launched by Tomas Bata University in Prague, Prostějov and Bzenec in the upcoming academic year 2008/09.
The Faculty of Applied Informatics is going to teach its Bachelor’s programme in Engineering Informatics, degree course in Security Technologies, Systems and Management not only in Zlín, but from September 2008 onwards also in Prague. The tuition will be carried out in cooperation with TRIVIS that associates 7 secondary schools and a tertiary technical school focusing on crime and crisis management. Approximately 30 students are expected to be admitted to the first year of the curriculum taught by TBU in Prague.
A newly built independent unit will be launched in September by the Faculty of Technology in Prostějov, on the premises of the former primary school at the Husovo Square. About 80 students are going to study in the full-time Bachelor’s programme in Economics and Management, degree course in Logistics and Management.
The third town in which a University independent unit will be launched this year is Bzenec. “We will follow the long standing local tradition of canning industry,” said TBU Rector, Prof. Ing. Ignác Hoza, CSc. The Faculty of Technology is going to run a degree programme in Food Chemistry and Technology with degree courses in Technology and Management in Gastronomy and Food Chemistry and Technology with specialization in Canning Technologies. A total of 120 students are expected to study in Bzenec.
At the present time, Tomas Bata University in Zlín has 5 faculties at which approximately 12,000 are expected to study in the upcoming academic year. Besides Zlín, where classes are held in 10 buildings (most of these are owned by the University), the University has a number of independent units. The biggest of these is the independent unit in Brno, where the Faculty of Humanities runs a part-time degree course in Social Pedagogy in cooperation with the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies. 1,500 students are enrolled on the course.

The International Institute of Political Science of Masaryk University in Brno and the Embassy of the USA in the Czech Republic open the third year of the ‘
Czech-American Prize for Talented Students’. The competition is aimed at university students at all degree levels and recent graduates that have written or are writing a
paper thematically related to the USA. This year’s competition is targeted at the authors of texts dealing with
history, culture and education. The winner will be awarded
CZK 10,000 and will be offered the
possibility of
publishing his/her text as a book in one of the editorial series of the International Institute of Political Science of Masaryk University. Besides the winning text, also the authors of other selected texts will be awarded language exam vouchers for TOEFL or GRE according to their own choice. The paper submission deadline is
