Tomas Bata University in Zlín is ranked No. 11 as regards the evaluation of quality of the Czech higher education institutions (as of 6th June 2007). The evaluation was made in accordance with criteria commonly used in advanced countries, i.e. depending on the results of last year‘s scientific activities and publications. The ranking features 21 public higher education institutions in the Czech Republic. The evaluation included not only universities as a whole but also their individual faculties. „Our Faculty of Technology and Faculty of Applied Informatics have achieved outstanding results,“ said Prof. Ignc Hoza, TBU Rector. Among 28 technical faculties the TBU Faculty of Technology is ranked second, immediately after the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering (Czech Technical University in Prague). The Faculty of Applied Informatics claimed the runner-up position as well, and that in competition with 20 faculties of economics, law and informatics.

Faculty of Technology has been producing impressive results over a long term, e.g. in the sphere of natural and synthetic polymer processing. Above all the TBU Polymer Centre is to be named as one of high-level scientific establishments. The Faculty of Applied Informatics is focusing on research in the following fields: Methods of automatic control, monitoring and control of technological processes, modelling and control of technological processes and application of artificial intelligence methods.
