International students obtained a Certificate in Czech for Foreigners

On 2nd August 2006, three international students obtained a Certificate in Czech for Foreigners at Tomas Bata University in Zlín. The certificates were festively presented to the students by prof. Ing. Petr Sáha, CSc., the Rector of Tomas Bata University. The students are now able to join their Czech fellow students and study programmes taught in the Czech language.

As the Rector stated, “The students have had 800 Czech lessons focused on grammar, conversation and writing. This now enables them to understand spoken and written language, discuss problems, write essays, etc. At the end of the course they took a Certificate examination specifying the level of their knowledge.”
The students intend to continue their studies at the Faculty of Technology and they have already been admitted to a study course focused on food processing. The students may also continue their study by enrolling in a different TBU programme held in Czech, as is the case of Hieu Nguyen Thanh, who has passed his entrance examination and has been admitted to study at the Faculty of Management and Economics.

Starting from next academic year, the number of international students in Czech language courses shall distinctly rise, as the university is going to expand into Uherské Hradiště. “In September a new one-year Czech language course for foreigners will be opened in Uherské Hradiště, where a hundred students will study Czech for Special Purposes. They will also be provided board and lodging. If the students pass their examination, it will be possible for them to continue study at our university or any other higher education institution in the Czech Republic,” the Rector informed.
