Vietnamese Students at the TBU
A new group of 50 Vietnamese students will start their study at the TBU Faculty of Technology in the academic year 2004/5. Most of them are interested in the study programme Chemistry and Materials Technology, the specialization in Footwear and Leather Goods technology; four of them want to study in a doctoral study programme. The students are mostly young people coming from the south of Vietnam, where the shoe industry has been flourishing recently.
The newly accepted group of students has already completed a three-month course in the Czech language taught in Hanoi by graduates from the Zlín Faculty of Technology. In Zlín, they will study Czech intensively for a year, four to five hours a day. After three months, they will start attending lectures in mathematics, physics, and chemistry taught in Czech. At the end of the academic year the students have to pass an exam in Czech and they will then receive a certificate.
The Vice-Dean for Pedagogical Matters at the Faculty of Technology, Doc. RNDr. Jiří Dostál, CSc. remarked, "We are continuing with the good experience we had with the group of 19 Vietnamese students who were accepted for study last year and who have already completed the one-year preparatory course. Fourteen of them successfully passed the entrance exams and are now starting their study at our University."
