Americans Appreciate the Scientists from Zlín

Doc. Ing. Petr Hlaváček, CSc. and his team, who studied the footwear of the prehistorical (?) man, Ötzi, who lived some 5,300 years ago, gained a significant appreciation this year. The American journal Discover listed their research results amongst the one hundred most important scientific discoveries of the year 2003. The Zlín team won this recognition as the only from the whole Czech Republic.

In 2001, docent Hlaváček and his three colleagues, wearing replicas of Ötzi's footwear, climbed an Italian glacier up to the very place where Ötzi's body was discovered in 1991. The shoes, stuffed with straw were, according to them, surprisingly comfortable and kept them warm even though they were walking in them on ice.
