Mrs. Sonja Bata to Receive TBU Honorary Degree
Mrs. Sonja Bata will be the next holder of the honorary degree of Tomas Bata University in Zlín. The TBU Scientific Board approved the proposal submitted by Prof. Petr Sáha, TBU Rector, to confer the honorary degree of doctor honoris causa on Mrs. Sonja Bata in recognition of her long-term support of TBU – from its establishment to the present time, in recognition of her promotion of the University abroad and of her personal contribution to the development of international relations of TBU.
At present, Mrs. Sonja Bata is the Chairman of the Bata Shoe Foundation; she has also been active in other parts of the Bata company. Since 2008 Mrs. Bata has been a member of the TBU Board of Governors. She received 7 honorary doctorates by Canadian universities and the honorary degree by Wilson College (USA). “Mrs. Sonja Bata is a prominent personality, who, alongside her husband Thomas J. Bata, a long-time Chairman of the TBU Board of Governors, always actively supported the development of international activities of TBU and helped to build the reputation of our University in the Czech Republic and abroad. Her recent significant activity resulted in the participation of TBU in the international lecture series on Responsible Capitalism featuring a lecture by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus,” said Prof. Petr Sáha, TBU Rector.
The honorary degree ceremony will take place in the University Centre in Zlín on 26 April 2012. Mrs. Sonja Bata will be the third holder of the TBU honorary degree.
